Soraya at Home
Stunning @sorayago with the kindest soul and biggest talent messaged us a while back about her art and we were so in love with her work that we wanted to get to know her and her daytime routine a little better. She inspired us with every photo & each answer and we are so happy to share them with all of you.
What do you do first thing in the morning?
“My daytime routine has to involve moving and daylight first thing, otherwise I’ll stay sleepy forever!!”
Where do you spent the most time in your apartment?
“I have a corner where I water my plants and paint. This is where the best light comes in, and where I like to sit and think. I’m more comfortable sitting on the ground than in a chair.”
Your apartment looks so lovely, with so much character. Did you decorate it yourself?
“Yes! Thank you. I love my apartment; it’s my very first place of my own after moving out of my family home. It took me a while, but I’m proud that I chose everything in here! This is where I’ve gotten to know myself better. The Temple community has been a lovely percipient of the love we pour into our immediate surroundings.”
How did making these series and wearing your Temple pieces make you feel?
“Making the series was exciting! I felt good acknowledging the little things and making them big. When I wear Temple, it feels like girlhood and womanhood in one, and this is how I always want to feel. Photographing myself to share was a rare occurrence of vulnerability in my own home, and embracing it felt decisive. It’s good to decide we are worthy and beautiful every day.”
What inspires you when making art?
“Women! Dancers. I come from a family of predominantly women and my favorite thing is to notice shapes, postures, any physical expression. Pole dancers amaze me with the suspension of the body. Something about spinning on your own axis is very inspiring and symbolic to me. I like knowing that the feminine influence and salience of art is something that I have in common with artists of all generations and time periods. Women are timeless.”
Where can people admire your creations?
“I am working on this. I have an art account I’m trying to be more active on @es.dee.go. I’m also trying to set up an Etsy so there’s an official platform where people can buy available work. That is my goal this summer!”
